Walking in the UN Decade of Action for Sustainable Transport
Three days connecting India’s wider urban agenda with a shared Asia-Pacific pathway for walking.
Urban Adda 2026 will bring together policymakers, practitioners, researchers, civil-society organisations, artists, young people and urban changemakers to explore more inclusive, resilient and sustainable cities. The first two days will form the wider Urban Adda programme, followed on 7 October by the Walk21 Asia-Pacific Regional Dialogue, introducing Walking Cities Lab activities.
Walking Cities Lab — Ahmedabad

As part of the Asia-Pacific programme, the Walking Cities Lab will also convene a dedicated Living Lab event at CEPT in Ahmedabad. This forms part of the wider Walking Cities Lab programme connected to the 2026 Regional Dialogues.

Two events, connected conversations
Urban Adda and the Regional Dialogue
The event combines a broad conversation about India’s urban future with a focused regional exchange on walking.
Urban Adda, convened by Raahgiri Foundation, creates a meeting place for ideas, policy, practice, creativity and public participation around liveable and sustainable cities.
The Walk21 Asia-Pacific Regional Dialogue will build on this wider programme by focusing specifically on walking as an essential part of sustainable transport, public health, climate action, accessibility and inclusive urban development.
Together, the three days will connect Indian experience with wider Asia-Pacific knowledge, strengthen relationships between research and implementation, and identify opportunities for continued regional collaboration.
About the event
Why this dialogue matters
Walking is fundamental to everyday mobility, access and participation, but it remains under-recognised in transport planning, investment, data and street design.
The UN Decade of Action for Sustainable Transport is an opportunity to change this. The Dialogue will help turn this global commitment into a shared Asia-Pacific pathway, connecting regional ambition with national and local action.
This is why we are also celebrating the launch of the Walking Cities Lab’s (WCL) Asia-Pacific Living Laboratory, our regional anchor for the WCL’s mission to make walking a global priority as a core part of VREF’s Walking as a Mode of Transport programme.
The launch is a space for co-producing actionable knowledge, building capacity and expanding communities of learning and practice with researchers, governments, civil society, and practitioners in all sectors. Dialogue participants will help shape the Lab’s agenda, share their knowledge and experience, and become founding partners in our regional communities of knowledge and practice to make walking a global priority.
